RGSL is pleased to invite you to attend a public lecture by Mārtiņš Mits (Dr.iur.), Judge at the European Court of Human Rights and RGSL’s Associate Professor. The lecture will be devoted to armed conflicts, asylum seekers and European Court of Human Rights.
Participants of the lecture will have an opportunity to explore how the European Court of Human Rights has dealt with various human rights aspects of persons fleeing from armed conflicts. Considering the context of armed conflicts, Mārtiņš Mits will discuss the application of the Article 3 of the European Convention on Human Rights by the Court embodying the principle of non-refoulement*.
*Non-refoulement: a fundamental principle of international law which forbids a country receiving asylum seekers from returning them to a country in which they would be in likely danger of persecution based on race, religion, nationality, membership of a particular social group or political opinion.
Lecture will take place on 24 October, at 5 PM at Riga Graduate School of Law.
