RGSL is pleased to announce a public lecture on 31 January at 13:00-15:00 (W42) where our lecturer Ieva Miluna and a former United Nations (UN) staff member Sherwin Das will discuss UN’s work on conflict prevention and management.

During his time at the UN, Sherwin Das has focused on issues related to international peace and security and, in particular, the stabilization of countries emerging from or at risk of conflict. He has held assignments at the UN Secretariat in New York and in UN field operations in Africa, Eastern Europe and the Balkans. His work has involved engagement at the local, national and international diplomatic level.

He was recently Chief of Political Affairs for the United Nations Regional Office in Central Africa (UNOCA), a UN political mission based in Gabon mandated to prevent conflict in the volatile Central Africa region. He has also served as the Peace and Development Advisor to the UN Representative in Moldova and has held various posts for the UN Department of Peacekeeping, the UN Department of Political Affairs, the United Nations Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).

He is currently the co-founder of Energy Peace Partners, a US-based non-profit organisation that aims to link international conflict management with climate change-related interventions and, in particular, renewable energy development in fragile states. Prior to this, he was a Senior Fellow in the Program on Conflict, Climate Change and Green Development at the University of California at Berkeley.
