18 representatives from public sector, NGOs and academia from the Western Balkan countries and Ukraine have started an Intensive Programme on the European Union (EU) law and economics at Riga Graduate School of Law (RGSL).

In the course of six weeks, RGSL’s Intensive Programme provides an opportunity to gain in-depth knowledge on EU policy, institutions, legislation and economics. The programme is composed of academic components and practical reform experience which ensured Latvia’s accession to the EU.

Acting rector of RGSL Jānis Ikstens highlights: ‘With the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia and partners, RGSL has been consistently developing into an educational hub for professionals from countries which are seeking closer cooperation with the European Union. RGSL’s programme offers an academic and practical knowledge on EU that is strongly interwoven with Latvia’s own transition experience from the past 25 years. This integrated approach to education is what our programme participants have highly praised.’

Intensive Programme is a joint effort of lecturers from RGSL, Latvian Institute of International Affairs, Stockholm School of Economics in Riga and the University of Latvia. As part of the programme, the participants will attend public institutions in Latvia and embark on a study visit to Brussels and Luxemburg. The Intensive Programme is accredited and grants its participants with internationally recognised ECTS academic credit points.

The Autumn Semester’s Intensive Programme at RGSL is funded by the Swedish Institute and the US government. It is implemented in accordance with the development cooperation policy of the the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia.

Since 2014 more than 145 participants from 16 countries have attended RGSL’s intensive and advanced programmes for professionals on EU law and economics.
