For the next academic year, we have reshaped our two-year Law & Finance Masters programme to bring legal and financial thinking together in a practical, interdisciplinary way and help our students to get closer to the real-world business environment where financial, policy, and legal aspects intersect.
“Law is not only a body of knowledge, but it is also a way of thinking. It teaches structure, reasoning, and how to work within clearly defined frameworks. I have always admired how legal professionals approach problems with clarity and precision, something that is often missing when relying only on technical knowledge of finance and business. I am willing to gain this legal knowledge in relation to finance, to better understand how systems function, how decisions are made, and how to apply these rules across sectors and contexts,” says a current student at SSE Riga, who wants to continue his Masters studies at RGSL.
The Law and Finance programmes focus on European corporate and financial law, and private international law. They provide an in-depth understanding of significant developments in the field of law and finance in the European Union Member States and beyond. They give students a comprehensive theoretical and practical knowledge of the interplay between law and finance at local and international levels and prepare highly qualified professionals who understand how the law interacts with finance and how the latter may impact existing regulatory frameworks. The programmes are great for finance specialists who want to deepen their knowledge of law and get a unique blend of knowledge and skills to excel in the job market, as well as for legal professionals who want to get more in-depth knowledge in finance.
"The RGSL Masters study programme Law & Finance shines through with academic excellence, practical relevance and international perspective by providing students with an outstanding opportunity to acquire advanced knowledge and develop practical expertise in the disciplines of law and finance," says Elizabete Rēzija Nīmante, current Law & Finance Masters student, Senior Expert of International Financial Institutions Division of Financial Market Policy Department, Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Latvia.
Law and Finance programme is also available as a 1-year programme, as well as the Technology Law programme, which equips lawyers with the knowledge to help identify and understand the complicated relationships between technological advances and the law. It provides students with the tools necessary to navigate the complex regulatory systems developing around new technologies (e.g. data protection, ICT contracts, intellectual property rights, cyber security), giving an innovative and competitive degree in a rapidly growing area of specialisation.
"Technology Law Masters programme offers unique and highly relevant course content and is taught by top-level professionals, making the overall learning experience truly high quality. The study process is interactive, with a well-balanced mix of group work and individual tasks, which helps each student use their strengths in the best way. I highly recommend applying if you’re looking for a programme that is both high quality and reflects today’s most relevant technology law topics," says Monta Agafonova, current Technology Law Masters programme student.
