This autumn, Associate Professor at RGSL, Dr Fillers, published an article titled “Venue in the Brussels Ia Regulation” in the Journal of Private International Law. In his article, the author emphasises that, somewhat counterintuitively, many of the rules on jurisdiction in the Brussels Ibis Regulation do not only determine the scope of international competence in civil and commercial cases among EU Member States, but also determine the specific competent courts within Member States. However, this significant function of the Brussels Ibis Regulation has rarely been the subject of academic study. Dr Fillers’ article is perhaps the most comprehensive study of the interaction between the Brussels Ibis Regulation and the local jurisdiction of Member State courts. It will certainly be useful to anyone interested in EU private international law.
