It is our pleasure to announce that the RGSL Senate has appointed Gudmundur Alfredsson as Visiting Professor. Prof. Alfredsson has joined the RGSL faculty as of September 2015. His research fields are public international law, international organizations, human rights, indigenous and minority rights, constitutional law and good governance.

Gudmundur Alfredsson has a law degree from the University of Iceland, MCJ-degree from New York University Law School and an SJD from Harvard Law School. He is Professor in the Polar Law master programme at the University of Akureyri and in the Human Rights master programme of the China University of Political Science and Law in Beijing, and serves as Editor-in-Chief of the Yearbook of Polar Law (with Timo Koivurova) and the International Journal on Minority and Group Rights. He has been Invited Law Professor at the University of Strasbourg, Professor at Lund University, Director at the Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights in Lund, staff member with the UN Secretariat in New York and Geneva, Chairman of the UN Working Group on Minorities (2006), and a member of the UN Sub-Commission for the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights (2004-06). He was an expert member of the Danish-Greenlandic Self-Governance Commission (2004-08) and the Working Group on Constitutional and International Law of the all-Greenlandic Self-Governance Commission (2001-03). Prof. Alfredsson has edited several books and is the author of more than 200 hundred academic articles as well as reports written for IGOs and NGOs.
