On 19 March, Mr. Gyorgy Schopflinand and Mr. Gerolf Anneman, members of the European Parliament Constitutional Affairs Committee (AFCO), visited Riga Graduate School of Law (RGSL) to discuss the constitutional development of the European Union. During the discussion, which was attended by guests from the European Parliament, faculty members and students of RGSL as well as other interested parties, participants shared their opinions on a number of topics including challenges of the European integration, possible reforms of the Treaties, accession of the European Union to the European Convention on Human Rights, and trust in the institutions of the European Union.
AFCO's responsibilities in the European Parliament encompass constitutional and institutional questions, inter alia, assessment of the implementation of the Lisbon Treaty and improvement of the functioning of the European Union. Additional information on the work of the committee can be found here:
