From July 16th till 27th a summer school “Alternative Dispute Resolution and Collective Redress in European and International Private Law” was held in the University of Udine (Italy). Riga Graduate School of Law was represented by this year’s alumni – Laura Ratniece, Anete Puče, Karīna Palkova and Jekaterina Kudrjavceva, and the RGSL faculty members Dr.iur. Inese Druviete and Dr.iur. Gaļina Žukova.
Within the framework of the summer school the students analyzed the latest trends of the alternative dispute resolution and consumer protection, paying special attention to class actions and collective redress. During the intensive lectures and discussions students tried to identify those issues which still prevent efficient protection of consumer rights and effective resolution of disputes where consumers are involved. At the end of the Summer school students could apply the acquired knowledge by solving practical problems, related to breaches of consumer rights in cross-border transactions.
Totally 39 students from Spain, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Denmark, Latvia, Serbia, Slovenia, Rumania and Italy took part in the summer school.
