On 29th of October, Bachelor programme director, Asst. Prof. Laura Kadile invited and welcomed Marlo Sarmiento, Software and Product Attorney form Silicon Valley, USA. He provided a lecture with the topic: Generative AI: Reigning in the Escaped Tiger.
This visiting lecture explored the explosive growth of AI large language models, and how private companies must stay ahead of government regulators to not only comply with existing laws but anticipate the future landscape of laws that will apply to AI.
Marlo Sarmiento brings over 25 years’ experience helping tech clients in the San Francisco Bay Area bring to market their software products and platforms. He specializes in negotiating and structuring complex B2B2C deals that connect users around the globe to their vehicles, homes, workplaces, healthcare providers, banks, and each other. In recent years, Mr Sarmiento has helped clients such as Samsung, Autodesk, and healthcare providers navigate the rapidly-evolving landscape of AI, focusing on the ethics, systemic bias, security, and privacy concerns that regulators struggle to oversee.
Experts from enterprises visiting the school and sharing their experience and knowledge with students are an integral part of the studies. It was a pleasure to provide such an enriching lecture, incorporating practical aspects, examples, and interactive discussions to our students.
