On 4 August, we launched the international Jean Monnet Summer School, “EU Fundamental Values in Times of Crisis,” with 24 students from four countries – Latvia, Sweden, Finland, and Estonia – gathering at the Riga Graduate School of Law campus on Strēlnieku 4 k-2.
The first lecturer, RGSL Visiting Lecturer and Adviser to the Supreme Court of Latvia Viktorija Soņeca, discussed two key topics – EU Fundamental Values: Why do we need the Charter of Fundamental Rights, and Protecting Fundamental Rights in the Age of AI.
Tomorrow, the students will explore the EU External Action's response to crises outside its borders with RGSL Professor and Ambassador of Latvia to Sweden, Dr. Ilze Rūse, and examine financial crises—their types, causes, frequency, and implications—with RGSL Assistant Professor, Dr. Natalja Točelovska, as well as visit the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia.
