Riga Graduate School of Law warmly congratulates Professor Ineta Ziemele, Judge at the Court of Justice of the European Union and a valued member of the RGSL academic community, on receiving a Certificate of Recognition from the Presidium of the Saeima (Parliament of the Republic of Latvia) for her significant contribution to strengthening democracy, the rule of law and constitutional values in Latvia.
The recognition was presented to Professor Ziemele on 30 October 2026 during a ceremony at the Saeima, ahead of the 104th anniversary of the first sitting of the Saeima and the entry into force of the Constitution of Latvia (Satversme). The ceremony honoured individuals whose professional achievements have made a meaningful contribution to Latvia’s statehood and democratic values.
Professor Ziemele’s distinguished career and scholarly contributions in constitutional law, human rights and international law have played an important role in the development of Latvian legal thought. Her work, both nationally and internationally, has advanced the understanding of the principles of the rule of law, constitutional values and the role of law in a democratic society.
It is a particular honour for Riga Graduate School of Law to have Professor Ineta Ziemele as part of our academic community. Her contribution extends beyond her exceptional academic knowledge and professional expertise. For RGSL students, learning from a scholar and judge whose work is directly connected to the development and application of law at the highest international level is an invaluable part of their academic experience.
Professor Ziemele’s involvement in RGSL reflects the importance of bringing together academic research, practical experience and independent legal thinking in legal education. Her professional example offers students a deeper understanding of the responsibilities of the legal profession and the significance of law in society.
