An inspiring week of intensive learning, critical discussions, and international collaboration has come to an end as we conclude the Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programme: “Health Law and Human Rights in the European Union”
Over five intensive days at Riga Graduate School of Law, participants immersed themselves in an interdisciplinary academic experience exploring some of Europe’s most pressing challenges at the intersection of health law, human rights, ethics, healthcare governance, and innovation.
Through interactive lectures, case studies, collaborative group work, independent research, student presentations, reflection sessions, and final assessments, participants strengthened not only their knowledge but also critical thinking, analytical skills, and intercultural competencies.
The programme addressed key topics including:
- Right to health as a fundamental human right
- EU health governance and institutions
- Cross-border healthcare and patient rights
- Biomedical ethics and reproductive rights
- Mental health and vulnerable patient protection
- E-health, telemedicine, and digital transformation
- Pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and innovations in health law
- End-of-life care, the right to die, euthanasia and assisted suicide
- Human rights in times of emergency and crisis
This transformative learning experience was made possible by an outstanding international teaching team:
- Assist. Prof. Ph.D. Laura Kadile (Riga Graduate School of Law)
- Assist. Prof. Dr. Capíková Silvia (Comenius University in Bratislava / Univerzita Komenského v Bratislave)
- Assist. Prof. PhD. Federico Laus (Università di Bologna)
Special appreciation to Ulla Zumente-Steele, MSW project lead. Ulla effectively managed meaningful international academic cooperation and exchange.
Beyond the classroom, this programme fostered international dialogue, new collaborations, and valuable networks among participants from different countries — highlighting how shared learning contributes to shaping future approaches to European health law and human rights.
This Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programme was co-funded by the European Union under project No. 2024-LV01-KA131-HED-000207343-1.
Thank you to all students, lecturers, partners, and contributors for your engagement, curiosity, and commitment throughout this journey. The programme has ended, but the ideas, discussions, and international connections built this week will continue well beyond Riga.
