The participants of the “Baltic-Black Sea Legal Initiative: Empowering Future Ukrainian Lawyers” visited the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia on 23 April, and the Constitutional Court of Latvia, Satversmes tiesa on 29 April.
The visits were a part of the intensive two-week training programme for 20 students from Ukraine, offering in-depth courses in EU Law, EU Integration, Human Rights, Good Governance and Anti-Corruption.
At the Ministry, the students were hosted by the Director of the First Bilateral Relations Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Uldis Mikuts and the Director of the EU Co-ordination and Policies Department, Reinis Brusbārdis, and discussed the latest developments in the coordination of EU Affairs in Latvia, Latvia-Ukraine bilateral relations and Ukraine’s EU integration.
At Satversmes tiesa, the students were hosted by the Head of the Legal Department of Satversmes Tiesa, Kristaps Tamužs, who told them about the operations of the Constitutional Court of Latvia.
The second session of the “Baltic-Black Sea Legal Initiative: Empowering Future Ukrainian Lawyers” organised by Riga Graduate School of Law (RGSL), in collaboration with Södertörn University and the Kyiv School of Economics, was launched on 22 April 2025.
The project aims to share Sweden’s academic expertise in EU Law and Latvia’s experience as a relatively recent EU member state. It equips Ukrainian students with vital legal and governance tools as Ukraine moves closer to European integration, helping to prepare them for active roles in their country’s reform process.
The initiative is funded by the Swedish Institute.
