A postgraduate PhD programme is made in cooperation with the Law Faculty of the University of Copenhagen. The programme leads to a degree in law.

The PhD programme is offered for holders of a Masters degree who wish to continue their studies in the field of International and European Law. The programme’s duration is three years of full time studies and they are fully covered.

At the moment, no positions are available for a tuition fee, on a part-time basis or through distance learning.

PhD candidates are selected and enrolled on the basis of an annual competition depending on available financing. After enrolment, PhD candidates are employed as research fellows at RGSL during the whole period of study, but are integrated into both research institutions with spending approximately equal time in Riga and Copenhagen.

Each PhD candidate has supervisors appointed by RGSL and the Law Faculty of the University of Copenhagen to monitor and assist the development of their dissertation, which when completed is submitted to an evaluation committee. Each candidate follows a programme of specially designed courses to ensure training in relevant topics and general principles of scientific research. In addition, PhD candidates have some teaching obligations related to their field of research.

Admission is currently closed.
