The second Pan-Baltic conference “Arbitration in the Baltics: Distinctiveness versus Global Conformity” will take place on 17 April 2026 at the Riga Graduate School of Law.
Following the inaugural conference held in Vilnius in 2024, this second edition builds upon its success and continues the regional dialogue on the development of arbitration across Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. The conference aims to provide a comprehensive 360-degree overview of arbitration in the three Baltic States, while examining how regional particularities and recent developments interact with global arbitration standards and practices.
The conference is organized jointly by COBALT, Riga Graduate School of Law, the University of Tartu School of Law, and the Vilnius University Faculty of Law.
The programme is structured around four thematic panels, each addressing a distinct perspective:
1. Regulatory Session – Latest Legislative Developments across the Baltic States
An overview of recent and upcoming legislative changes shaping arbitration frameworks in Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.
2. Counsel Session – Current Arbitration Practice in the Baltics
Insights from practitioners on trends, procedural developments, and practical considerations in arbitrations seated in the Baltics.
3. Institutional Session – Perspectives from Leading Baltic Arbitral Institutions
A discussion of institutional experience, best practices, and the positioning of Baltic arbitration institutions in the international context.
4. Investor-State Session – ISDS Practice in Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia
An overview of investor-state dispute settlement developments and the Baltic States’ experience in this field.
The conference is designed to bring together the Baltic arbitration community, including legal practitioners, arbitrators, academics, policymakers, representatives of arbitral institutions and public authorities, and the business community.
It aims to foster a meaningful dialogue, promote knowledge exchange, and strengthen cooperation across jurisdictions, contributing to the continued development and international positioning of arbitration in the Baltic States.
