Public lecture on “Current Priorities of the International Law Commission and the Work Ahead”

On 2 December 2016 Riga Graduate School of Law (RGSL) will host a public lecture on “Current Priorities of the International Law Commission and the Work Ahead” presented by International Law Commission member Sir Michael Wood. The International Law Commission is the United Nations organ charged with promoting the progressive development of international law and its codification. The speaker will address items on its current agenda, including crimes against humanity, and the immunity of State officials. He will also consider the future of the International Law Commission, which is approaching its 70th anniversary in 2018. This public lecture will take place at 13:00. The lecture will be in English. Apply: here About the lecturer: Sir Michael Wood is a member of the International Law Commission, and a Senior Fellow of the Lauterpacht Centre for International Law at the University of Cambridge.  He is a barrister at 20 Essex Street, London, where he practises in the field of public international law, including before international courts and tribunals.  He was Legal Adviser to the UK’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office between 1999 and 2006, having joined as an Assistant Legal Adviser in 1970.
