On 15–16 June 2026, the Riga Graduate School of Law (RGSL) hosted the Nordplus Law Network workshop “Teaching Law in the Age of AI – Emerging Challenges, Risks, and Academic Responses”, bringing together legal scholars, researchers, and students from universities across the Nordic and Baltic regions.
The workshop focused on the growing impact of artificial intelligence on legal education and academic practice. Over two days, participants explored the opportunities and challenges associated with the use of AI tools in teaching, research, thesis writing, supervision, and assessment.
The first day concentrated on pedagogical perspectives and student experiences with AI in legal education. Participants examined students’ expectations and practices regarding AI use, discussed questions of academic integrity, and reflected on the challenges of authorship, supervision, and assessment of bachelor's and master's theses in an era of increasingly sophisticated AI tools.
The second day focused on curriculum development and assessment design in the age of artificial intelligence. Presentations and discussions highlighted practical examples of integrating AI into the teaching of data protection, compliance, and legal technology, while also addressing the need to uphold high standards of academic quality and integrity in a rapidly evolving technological environment.
The workshop concluded with collaborative group sessions dedicated to future cooperation among partner institutions. Participants identified opportunities for developing joint courses, creating shared guidelines for thesis supervision and assessment, and advancing new Erasmus+ initiatives and projects.
The Nordplus Law Network workshop demonstrated that the challenges posed by artificial intelligence in legal education are shared across European higher education institutions and that international cooperation remains essential for developing sustainable and high-quality approaches to the future of legal education.
