On November 12, the 5th Intensive Programme in European Law and Economics for European Neighbourhood Policy Countries, Central Asia and the Western Balkans begins in Riga.
The Programme is developed for professionals from public administration, NGOs and academia, and implemented by Riga Graduate School of Law (RGSL) in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia and international donors that since 2016 have included the Swedish Institute and the governments of United States and Switzerland.
During six weeks, 28 participants from 13 countries - Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Belarus, Egypt, Georgia, Moldova, Montenegro, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Palestine, Serbia and Ukraine - will undergo a comprehensive training in Riga on legal, economic and political functioning of the European Union. The Programme facilitates knowledge transfer between Latvian experts and programme’s participants based on the experience Latvia gained over years of accession negotiations with the European Union and membership since 2004. Participants will also go on a week-long study trip to Brussels and Luxembourg for in-person meetings with EU policy makers.
Since 2016, 75 representatives from 19 countries have graduated the Intensive Programme. Together with the graduates of the sibling three-month Advanced Programme, the alumni network has already reached more than 200 graduates.
The Programme is taught by academics from RGSL, the Latvian Institute of International Affairs, University of Latvia, Stockholm School of Economics in Riga and European Institute of Public Administration. The Programme takes place at RGSL on Strēlnieku 4-k2.
